Grace Forge Blacksmithing Courses
Spend a day learning key blacksmithing skills in the beautiful and historic grounds of Brougham Hall. You can choose either a half or full day course:
Half Day: 2.5 - 3hrs
Cold forging copper wrist bands. You’ll learn hammering techniques and how to use the anvil to shape and draw out metal. Using metal stamping techniques you can personalise your work before filing, sanding and refining it to a finished piece.
Full Day: 5.5 - 6hrs
Morning - Covers the same as the half day, cold forging a copper wrist band.
Lunch - At lunchtime we’ll light the forge so it’s ready to use once we’ve eaten. The Hideaway Cafe next door to the forge serves hot and cold food, or feel free to bring packed lunch. You will also have time to browse the other artisanal studios at Brougham Hall.
Afternoon - Hot forging either a coat hook, fire poker or garden lantern holder. The afternoon session focuses on hot forge work, where you'll learn to safely handle hot steel, drawing out and tapering the metal before shaping it around the anvil or a jig. We will add a river twist and coat it in beeswax for a beautiful finish.
Make it a short break
Combine your course with a stay in Dunfell Shepards Hut. You’ll stay in beautiful, cosy accommodation situated at the foot of the dramatic Pennines, 20 minutes drive from the forge.
